The Vibe is… Fangtastic

The Vibe is… Fangtastic

A little Unicorn Empire lore, a lot of vampire chaos, and a very spooky sale!

It’s the first day of October, which means it’s time to embrace our inner Nadja, light some candles, and scream into the flannely fall void.

While it’s pouring rain and thundering here in the PNW, I thought I’d drop a little deep Unicorn Empire Lore about my long-running obsession with What We Do in the Shadows.

I’ve been hooked on these loser vampires since way back in 2014, when WWDITS was still a “foreign film” I'd heard about from a friend. There was no DVD available in the US and no easy way to stream it, but I got my grubby mitts on it somehow and loved it to death. By 2015, I was bringing my very first run of Werewolves Not Swearwolves tote bags to Emerald City Comic Con, where most people’s reaction was, “That’s funny… what’s it from?”

As the fandom grew and more people started to get the joke, I knew I could go bigger. My favorite line was 'And it was Petyr!' so I made a shirt design, and even though it's retired now it's still one of my all time favorites.

People loved the totebag so much I decided to expand it into a full shirt design, and that simple tote bag design evolved into one of my most popular Unicorn Empire t-shirt designs!

Did you know it was originally printed in gold and brown for a limited time?

Another favorite, The Unholy Masquerade, actually began life as a small invitation card that came in a WWDITS gift set. After a lot of fan enthusiasm, I expanded it into a full t-shirt design, because if there’s anything vamps love, it’s a party.

And of course, Antipaxos Girl was born thanks to my partner, who immediately said “What if Nadja Dolly… but make it American Girl Doll?” (one of her childhood obsessions). We went back and forth for days, imagining what accessories the Antipaxos Girl would come with, and what kind of delightfully grim story would fill her historical character book (which were one of my childhood obsessions).

So here we are many years later: a new October has begun, the spooky vibes are strong (I don't know about you guys but I'm feakin' terrified), and my little vampire-inspired collection has grown alongside this fandom I adore.

Happy Spooky Season, and don’t forget to check out my very spooky sale!
